India: PM Modi to Inaugurate Noida International Airport on March 28

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates a new international airport in Noida, easing pressure on Delhi's main airport and supporting India's aviation expansion.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the first phase of the Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, on March 28, 2026. This new facility will serve as the second international airport for New Delhi, helping to alleviate congestion at the existing Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Airport Infrastructure and Capacity

The Noida International Airport spans 7,200 acres and has cost approximately $1.2 billion for its initial phase. Authorities expect it to accommodate 12 million passengers per year in the first phase, with projections reaching up to 70 million passengers annually once fully operational.

India's government has announced plans to develop 100 new airports over the next 10 years. This initiative aims to increase the total number of airports to between 350 and 400 by 2047, up from the current 163.

As part of this expansion, the government intends to allocate $1.07 billion in subsidies to support airlines on unviable routes. This move is designed to enhance connectivity across the country.

The new airport in Jewar is expected to boost economic activity in the region by improving access for travelers and cargo. It will feature modern infrastructure to handle both domestic and international flights.

According to reports from DW World, the project represents a significant step in India's aviation sector growth. The inauguration event underscores the government's focus on infrastructure development to meet rising demand.

With this development, Uttar Pradesh will see enhanced transportation links, potentially attracting more investment and tourism to the area.
