Michael Saylor Signals More Bitcoin Purchases as MicroStrategy's Holdings Drop 10%

Saylor hints at additional Bitcoin buys as MicroStrategy's investments slip, following recent large purchases.

Michael Saylor, executive chair of MicroStrategy, signaled potential new Bitcoin purchases on Sunday via a post on X, stating 'The Orange March Continues' alongside a chart of the company's Bitcoin acquisitions since August 2020. This comes as MicroStrategy's Bitcoin holdings have slipped into a 10% loss due to recent market declines.

MicroStrategy's Recent Bitcoin Acquisitions

MicroStrategy has purchased more than $2.9 billion worth of Bitcoin this month, including 17,994 Bitcoin on March 9 and 22,337 Bitcoin on March 16. These acquisitions add to the company's total Bitcoin stack, which now stands at roughly $52 billion based on purchases since 2020.

Bitcoin's price fell 4% to $67,725 on Sunday amid heightened military tensions between the United States and Iran, before partially recovering to $68,100. With MicroStrategy's average cost per Bitcoin at approximately $75,696, the company is currently experiencing a 10% loss on its holdings, according to data from BitcoinTreasuries.

MicroStrategy has been funding its Bitcoin purchases through high-yield perpetual preferred stock offerings, such as Stretch (STRC), which provide monthly dividends to investors. However, the company halted this funding method last week after failing to raise additional capital from the preferred stock.

MicroStrategy's shares, traded as MSTR, dropped 6.6% last week to $135.66, erasing earlier gains. The stock had been a top performer in the U.S. market from January 2023 until July 2025 but has since declined 68.7% from its all-time high of $434.20.

Other corporate Bitcoin treasury stocks have also faced significant declines, raising questions about the sustainability of such strategies, though MicroStrategy continues its aggressive approach despite the risks.
