Speechify Releases Windows App Using Local AI for Transcription and Dictation

Speechify's new Windows app enables on-device voice processing for dictation and reading aloud, targeting users with over 50 million already on the platform.

Speechify, a voice AI company, launched a native Windows app on March 31, 2026, that uses locally stored models for transcription and dictation across various applications.

Key Features of the App

The app performs voice processing entirely on-device, utilizing neural text-to-speech, real-time voice activity detection, and Whisper-powered transcription on Copilot+ PCs equipped with NPUs from AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm, as well as other Windows 11 PCs with Intel or AMD GPUs.

Users can configure the app to switch between on-device models and cloud-based options during use, offering flexibility for different scenarios.

Speechify, which reports over 50 million users, employs the Silero open-source model for voice activity detection and allows audio generation at seven speed presets for reading aloud documents, web pages, or PDFs using its library of voices.

The company positions this app to compete with similar tools like Wispr Flow, Willow, and Superwhisper, expanding its reach to dictation and transcription across platforms.

In a statement, Speechify CEO Cliff Weitzman said, 'Over a billion people use Windows. With this launch, we’re ensuring reading and writing are accessible on any device, especially for enterprise professionals.'

Last month, Speechify introduced browser-based meeting transcription, and the company may extend this to native apps for broader compatibility.

Speechify has evolved from focusing on text-to-speech for articles and emails to offering a full-stack voice app, including dictation and a voice assistant, to meet diverse user needs.
