Tiger Woods returns to competitive golf in the TGL finals amid preparations for the Masters.
Tiger Woods, the 15-time major winner, is scheduled to play in the TGL finals for Jupiter Links Golf Club on Tuesday in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This marks his return to competitive golf after a series of injuries, including a lumbar disc replacement surgery in October and a left Achilles tendon rupture from the previous spring.
The TGL event features Woods as an adviser and player for his team, which includes Max Homa, Tom Kim, and Kevin Kisner. In the first match of the finals on Monday, Los Angeles Golf Club defeated Jupiter Links 6-5, with Sahith Theegala securing the win by birdieing the final hole.
Match Details and Woods' Role
During Monday's match, Jupiter Links led 3-2 after nine holes of triples play but ultimately lost. The best-of-three series continues on Tuesday, potentially deciding the champion. Woods, who has undergone seven back operations, has not participated in a full golf event since missing the cut at the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon.
Woods' last major victory was at the 2019 Masters. He has been open about his recovery challenges, stating in a recent interview that his body does not heal as quickly as it did when he was younger, with good days and bad days following his surgeries.
The TGL finals follow the league's inaugural event last year, where Atlanta Drive GC swept New York Golf Club. Woods aims to use this outing to assess his readiness for the Masters tournament next month, despite his ongoing health issues.
In the TGL format, players compete in various styles, including triples and singles play. For Jupiter Links, the team's performance in the finals highlights the competitive nature of the league, with Woods' participation drawing significant attention.
