Crypto Emerges as Key Issue for 80% of Young UK Voters, Survey Shows

Young UK voters prioritize crypto in politics, with a survey highlighting its influence on financial literacy and party support.

A Coinbase Institute survey indicates that 80% of UK young voters aged 16-25 see cryptocurrency as their main introduction to finance, surpassing traditional products like ISAs.

Survey Highlights Crypto's Rising Influence

The research, conducted with JL Partners and shared with CoinTelegraph, shows that 65% of under-25s recognize Bitcoin more than any savings bond or ISA, reflecting a shift towards digital assets for understanding money and risk.

Nearly half of young respondents stated they would trust a political party more if it demonstrates knowledge of crypto and blockchain technology, while 26% are more likely to support parties favoring pro-innovation crypto policies.

The UK government's plan to pause political donations in cryptocurrency contrasts with this trend, potentially creating a gap between youth financial interests and current regulations.

Coinbase's vice president of international policy, Tom Duff Gordon, noted that the UK could see 1.3 million new voters if the voting age drops to 16, urging parties to address crypto on their agendas.

Former Cabinet minister Alun Cairns emphasized that digital assets are central to engaging younger generations, warning that parties ignoring this risk losing relevance amid changing demographics.

The survey also found that two-thirds of young people want government-led financial education on crypto, with 43% saying they would trust a party more for embracing such technologies, rising to 58% among Reform voters and 46% among Labour voters.
